Maharana Pratap Singh I, born around 9 May 1540, was a king of Mewar in present-day Rajasthan, India. He is famous for fighting against the Mughal Emperor Akbar’s expansion, especially in the Battle of Haldighati and the Battle of Dewair. He reigned from 28 February 1572 until his death on 19 January 1597. His father was Udai Singh II, and his son, Amar Singh I, succeeded him. Important ministers during his reign included Bhamashah and Jhala Man Singh.
